History
Two decades of
climate action
Carbonium is founded
Following work with the World Bank and the United Nations, Alexandre Borde founds Carbonium to address the need for international environmental and climate expertise.
An international footprint
The firm begins working across developing and emerging countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa, initially on Kyoto and Clean Development Mechanism projects.
Corporate climate advisory
Carbonium strengthens its work with major corporations and enters a strategic partnership with Statkraft.
A strategic committee
Philippe Coste joins as CEO and the Strategic Committee is created.
The Paris Agreement era
The firm supports countries on emissions-reduction and adaptation strategies and contributes to the climate-negotiation context around COP21.
Cibola Partners
Cibola Partners is created to bring Carbonium’s network and expertise to private climate finance and cleantech innovation. Yang Zhang joins as Managing Director.
GCF observer status
Cibola Partners becomes an Accredited Observer to the Green Climate Fund and supports the mobilisation of GCF finance for a Mongolia project.
One advisory business
Cibola Partners takes over Carbonium’s advisory activity, bringing the two histories together.
