Our history

• 2004

  Following his experience at the World Bank and the United Nations, Alexandre Borde founded CARBONIUM in 2004 in order to overcome the lack of international expertise in the field of environment and climate.

• 2007

  In late 2007, the company began to establish itself in developing and emerging countries, in Asia, Latin America and Africa. Carbonium specializes in the so-called Kyoto projects or Clean Development Mechanism projects, targeting electricity generation from renewable energy sources.

• 2010

  Carbonium strengthens its experience in consulting with large corporations. In 2010, the company signed a strategic partnership with the world's largest producer of electricity from renewable energy, the Norwegian company Statkraft.

• 2012

  In 2012, Philippe Coste (ENA, Simone Weil promotion, Former Ambassador) joined Carbonium as CEO. The company also created a Strategic Committee.

• 2015

  Carbonium assists several countries in their emission reduction and climate change adaptation strategies and plays an active role in climate negotiations at COP-21 and the signing of the Paris Agreement.

• 2017

  Carbonium succeeds in assisting numerous enterprises and financial institutions in their climate strategy particularly following the COP-21 decisions. The founding of Cibola Partners, in 2017, responds to both the need for providing the Carbonium network and expertise to private climate finance, as well as Cleantech innovations. Yang Zhang joins Cibola Partners as Managing Director.

• 2018

  Cibola Partners achieved the Accredited Observer status with the USD 20 billion Green Climate Fund (GCF) and appointed Le Ban to represent the firm at the GCF. As an advisor to a development bank, the firm helped raise USD 145 million from the GCF for a project in Mongolia.

• 2020

  As of January 1, 2020, Cibola Partners took over Carbonium's advisory business and doubled its business volume.
